Each Stewp Mix serves 3 meals. The cost of each serving without meat is around £1.23. This is made up of £1 for the mix plus around £0.23* for the onion, half can of chopped tomatoes, and the third ingredient specific to each mix flavour. See each Stewp mix product page for costing of each flavour.

The cost of meat can vary depending on whether you buy from the local store, main supermarket or butcher. However, for one serving of chicken, lean beef mince, chorizo & lamb for the Stewp mix, this is £0.76*, £0.75*, £0.30*, & £1.63*, respectively.

Simmering your Stewp for 50-60 mins with the lid on will cook the pulses. However, we recommend tasting at 50 mins to see if they are soft enough for you. Some customers like them very soft so you may want to cook longer.

Yes. We have tested all our Stewp Mixes in a slow cooker and they are great! To use a slow cooker, add the Stewp to the cooker rather than continuing to simmer it in the pan. 

The pulses (lentils & split peas) in our mixes will cook within the 50-60 mins and theregore do not need a pre-soak.

The pulses go throughy a screening process by our supplier or in their supply chain. These screening processes remove both bodies larger than the pulses and dust and fine particles smaller than the pulses.

However, some people prefer to give these ingredients an extra rinse or wash in water before cooking. If it gives you peace of mind, simply pinch off all the pulses, vegetable flakes & rice above the herbs & spcies and rinse them with a sieve in water. 

Yes. Some of our customers love to customise their Stewp. 

We all have different experiences with cooking. If you are fairly new to cooking we recommend making the Stewp mix with the onions and chopped tomatoes as instructed and then changing the third ingredient and adding more vegetable if you wish. Our Stewp mix is a great way to use up those vegetables hiding in the fridge. 

We have paired each Stewp Mix with a meat that is typically expected with the flavour of each mix. However, we are excited to learn from customers that they are changing the meat to suit their own tastes, to use what they have to hand or simply to be creative in the kitchen. 

Some supermarket sell chopped tomatoes in half cans. Otherwise, freeze or store in the fridge and use up within 2 days in another recipe (another Stewp?). Alternatively use a whole can with two Stewp Mixes of the same flavour and freeze some of your cooked Stewp.   

The best before date is located at the bottom on the back of the package. This date lets you know when the ingredients and spices are at their finest in terms of freshness. After that the spices may start to lose their flavour. The quality of the spices may be maintained if you keep the mix in a dark cool place before using it.
